Larry Kramer was a big activist during the AIDS activist in the 1980's. He mentioned several times throughout the videos that he was sick and tired of people not caring bout this plague. He explained that nobody is giving any attention because it is infecting the minorities such as gays, black people, hookers, and drug addicts. Kramer acted as Ned from "The Normal Heart" because he wanted to inform everyone about the plague so they would hopefully save themselves. He was also very confrontational and harsh similar to the way Ned was perceived. He wrote this play to get more attention to AIDS and so they could understand what he goes through. Someone outside of the gay community might not bat an eyelash. but the play brings awareness to the heartbreaking reality. After decades of the play being out to the public, there was finally an HBO special about it to put the light back on this epidemic. Kramer does not want people to forget about this and keep striving to find a cure. The HBO series gives it an updated version of the play and overall, I think it just a reminder to society. The 80's are becoming farther and farther away and the new generations have not lived through the that time of intensity. I personally have not really known much of the plague because I was born in 1997. My parents were more aware of it which I believe is why they made an HBO presentation about it so they can educate as many people as possible.
